Where do they work? Sonographers work in a variety of settings, including: Community hospitals University-affiliated teaching hospitals and medical centers Clinics Doctors offices Outpatient diagnostic imaging centers Public health institutions Commercial sales and applications Research A variety of working schedules are available to sonographers. Depending on the facility where they are employed, they may work part time, full time, weekends, nights or holidays. Most hospitals require sonographers to be "on-call" for emergency cases occurring after hours.
