Make it happen!
Does a career as a radiation therapist sound like it might be for you? If so, here's an overview of the coursework you'll need to get you on the path.
High School
Get a jump start in high school. Pursue a strong college preparatory program. Check with your school counselor to make sure you earn enough credits in the core curriculum to meet college entrance requirements. A core curriculum includes courses in English, mathematics and the sciences. You will also need to take either the ACT or SAT test for college admission.

College
As an example, let’s assume you want to enroll in the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Radiation Therapy Program.
Before you apply, you’ll need to complete 35 semester hours of specific prerequisites from an accredited college or university. Your undergraduate coursework must include the following specific disciplines:

Professional Education
The Radiation Therapy Program at UNMC is a 12 month professional program. It is offered only as a second certification modality in Radiation Science Technology.
That means you must first complete an accredited program in a primary modality before you can apply to the Radiation Therapy Program.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you plan your course:

Once you have earned your 35 hours of college prerequisites, met all of the entrance requirements, & have successfully completed an accredited radiography program, you will be eligible to apply for the 12-month Radiation Therapy Program.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Science Technology.

 |
At this point, you will be eligible to take the national examination for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center offers excellent scholarship support designated for professional education in radiation therapy. Various professional organizations provide scholarship money as well.
