Minorities - Regarding affirmative action, a brief filed by AAMC. Minorities are 4 times more likely to go to underserved areas to practice and are more likely to see minority patients regardless of their practice location. http://www.aamc.org/newsroom/pressrel/2003/030217.htm AAMC data notes that 40% of minority grads choose underserved areas vs 10% of all medical school graduates. In my students (Bowman using AAMC GQ 1995 data, rural background students were 6 times as likely to choose underserved areas to practice (60% vs 10%)
