Age is a key factor in choice of family medicine, and in choice of the careers most in need in psychiatry, child psychiatry, rural careers of all types, and poverty primary care.
Where there are differences in socioeconomics, age can make a big difference. The youngest who are rural born are likely to be from higher income or professional parents and have lower levels of distribution. Foreign born students tend to have higher socioeconomic status families and are more likely to be found in subspecialties and major medical centers. However older foreign born (and Core Metro and those born in counties with medical schools as seen below) types are found in family medicine, underserved areas, and away from major medical centers. Those born in military bases have a fairly uniform socioeconomic level and little difference in choice of family medicine by age.
