Access for Students with Disabilities

Section 504 of the Federal rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) give students with disabilities certain rights with regard to admissions, employment, student and staff services, and the curriculum.

In order to be eligible for academic or physical accommodations you must follow these steps:

  1. Contact the Counseling and Student Development Center and fill out the "Request for Services" form".

  2. Provide official documentation of your disability from a physician, psychologist, or other qualified care provider.

  3. Make your request for accommodation well in advance (4 weeks recommended) of the time for which the accommodation is needed, so that your request can be considered and arrangements for accommodation made in a timely manner.

  4. Once your accommodation plan has been approved, you will receive an approval letter, verifying your eligibility for accommodations.  You are responsible for notifying your instructors and confirming classroom accommodation arrangements with them.  Faculty will not be expected to provide accommodation without prior approval.
