Student objectives

The student must:

Knowledge -
  acquire, understand, and apply the biomedical science knowledge that is essential for the identification, evaluation, and treatment of disease and for the promotion of health. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the personal, cultural, occupational, and societal factors that affect the health and well-being of the patient.
  Outcome measures - Core and course evaluations, year one comprehensive, USMLE Step 1, Shelf exams, Senior OSCE
 
Attitudes -
  demonstrate professional competence and respect for patient's value systems when dealing with patients and family members. The student will be ethical and respectful when interacting with faculty, classmates, and other health care professionals.
  Outcome measures - Professionalism document, written comments in PBL, cores, and courses
 
Skills -
  demonstrate the requisite history and physical examination skills and problem-solving ability to allow her/him to appropriately evaluate the patient. The student must also demonstrate the ability to be a self-directed, life-long learner; make appropriate assessments of patient problems; and develop an appropriate therapeutic plan of action.
  Outcome measures - Junior OSCE; Senior OSCE; written comments in PBL, cores, and courses
