- Initial requests for elective time at the University of Nebraska Medical Center
College of Medicine from students attending U.S. medical schools should be sent to the
Office of Admissions and Students (Sue Pope
spope@unmc.edu).

The inquiry should include the following information:

- Student name, home address and social security
number.
- Name of medical school.
- Area of interest.
- Dates available for elective.
|

Written responses will include:
|

- Copy of Elective Handbook or appropriate sections.
- Copy of current Academic Calendar.
- Medical Student Application Form for an Elective.
|
- The application form requires documentation that:
|
|
- The student is in good academic standing at their institution.
- The student has completed all basic science courses and required junior year clerkships
prior to the elective.
- Approval from medical school official.
|
- Upon receipt of the completed application form, the Office of
Admissions and Students will
determine if space is available in the elective required and time period desired before
inquiry is made to the appropriate department.

- If approval is granted, the application form will be completed and mailed in the
appropriate manner:

- Original: Student
- Copy: Medical School Official
- Copy: UNMC Sponsoring Department
- Copy: UNMC Office of Admissions and Students

The University of Nebraska College of Medicine does not accept applications for
electives from students attending foreign medical schools unless sponsored by a full-time
faculty member.
