Scottsbluff National Monument

College of Nursing and College of Dentistry

The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing-West Nebraska Division is located in the Harms Technology Center in Scottsbluff. The West Nebraska Division was opened in the fall of 1987 to prepare nurses for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree and a Master of Science in Nursing Degree.

In August 2003, the College of Dentistry expanded its dental hygiene program to western Nebraska. Students attend classes at Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska in Gering and use distance learning technology to access Lincoln classes.

Though traditionally an agricultural area, education and health care now play a big role in the local economy. A magnet for patients from all over western Nebraska, Regional West Medical Center is one of only three Level II trauma centers in the state.

Chimney Rock National Historic Site, the Legacy of the Plains Museum and Oregon Trail landmarks are just a few of the features that make the panhandle’s twin cities a treasure trove of historic sites. Oregon Trail Days, antique car and tractor rallies, the Old West Balloon Fest, the Monument Marathon, Friday night auto racing and live, open-air entertainment at the Five Rocks Amphitheater mean something fun is always just around the bend.
