College of Dentistry

John Reinhardt, D.D.S.

John Reinhardt, D.D.S.John Reinhardt, D.D.S., announced in 2013 that he would step down in 2014, after 14 years in the post. Janet Guthmiller, D.D.S., Ph.D., associate dean of academic affairs and professor in the department of periodontology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, has been appointed as the new dean.

Since becoming dean in 2000, Dr. Reinhardt has led outstanding faculty and exceptional students in an educational environment that is challenging and supportive – together they have trained future health care providers who repeatedly achieve the highest national board test scores in the United States for dental and dental hygiene exams.

Cutting-edge research at the college has led to a 700 percent increase in external funding during the past 10 years. Students are actively engaged in research and work side-by-side with noted faculty scientists. The college continually ranks in the top 25 in National Institutes of Health funding, despite its comparatively small number of faculty.

One of Dr. Reinhardt’s passions is access to high-quality dental care for all Nebraskans. Among the most visible programs developed to provide that care are the Lincoln and Panhandle Children’s Dental Days, in addition to the statewide network of affiliated dental public health clinics and offices. Serving the state’s neediest patients is an integral part of the college’s clinical education programs.

A general dentist, Dr. Reinhardt is actively engaged in teaching, patient care, public health and research.
