School of Allied Health Professions

Kyle P. Meyer, Ph.D.

Kyle Meyer, Ph.D.Anyone who knows Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., knows his mantra: Allied health professionals comprise 60 percent of the health care workforce.

Dr. Meyer believes the allied health professions provide the essential framework for the American health care system. He should know - the ardent advocate is himself a physical therapist.

His mantra, however, scratches only the surface of his vision: to grow the school’s research contributions to the level of its nationally recognized educational programs. To do that, the SAHP is focused on new programs in two areas of interprofessional research: patient safety and healthy aging.

A 1979 graduate of UNMC, Dr. Meyer joined the UNMC faculty in 1991 as director of clinical education for the division of physical therapy education. In 1983, the Lincoln native became the first pediatric physical therapist at Children's Hospital in Omaha and led the development of the hospital's first physical therapy department.

Dr. Meyer’s research interests include family-centered care, as well as educational scholarship.

Dr. Meyer is a member of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He has been actively involved at the national level in clinical education for physical therapy students.
