Health Professions Appointment

Definition

Members of the full-time permanent faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center may be employed by a "Health Professions Faculty Appointment" established by the Board of Regents on May 6, 1988. A Health Professions Faculty Appointment shall be for a negotiated term not to exceed five years and shall carry no presumption of renewal. The appointment may be renewed for succeeding negotiated terms not to exceed five years each. Each appointment will terminate at the end of its stated term if written notice of non-reappointment is given to the appointee by the appropriate administrative officer or by the board in accordance with requirements established in Section 4.4.7 subsections (a), (b), & (c) of the Bylaws of the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska.

Any person serving on a Health Professions Faculty Appointment may make application for continuous appointment and be reviewed in accordance with the University of Nebraska Medical Center standards for awarding continuous appointments as approved by the Chancellor pursuant to Section 4.5 of the Bylaws of the Board of Regents.

There is no probationary period before review for a Continuous Appointment is carried out, nor is there a requirement that individuals ever be considered for Continuous Appointment. Options available include:

  1. Negotiate for periodic renewal of contract and never request review for Continuous Appointment
  2. Request evaluation for Continuous Appointment after enough time has elapsed to enable the faculty member to meet the criteria for a possible favorable decision on continuous appointment
  3. Request evaluation for continuous appointment after a specific time period as a part of the initial contract negotiation.
Term

Termination

Each appointment will terminate at the end of its stated term if written notice of non-reappointment is given to the appointee by the appropriate administrative officer or by the board in accordance with requirements established in Section 4.4.7 subsections (a), (b), & (c) of the Bylaws of the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska. - See table below

If written notice is not given to the appointee by the appropriate administrative officer or by the Board, as indicated in the table below, the appointment shall be extended for a period of 12 months. (Section 4.4.7 of the Bylaws of the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska)
