The Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMT) Program at UNMC is part of the Division of Radiation Science Technology Education in the College of Allied Health Professions. It is offered as a 12 month post-primary program for students who have completed a radiography program and are ARRT registered.
The program consists of innovative teaching demonstrations, labs, and supervised clinical instruction by some of the region’s most highly qualified faculty and physicians. Experiences are designed to integrate basic science and communication skills with the practice of Nuclear Medicine Technology. A comprehensive knowledge base and clinical experience are achieved through a plan of study, which focuses on increasing proficiency under the supervision of qualified faculty and staff. The program combines basic science, nuclear medicine science and instrumentation, clinical nuclear medicine, patient care, nuclear pharmacy, management, research, and many other vital skills in healthcare.
Clinical educational experiences are obtained at leading regional medical centers, nuclear pharmacy and cyclotron, and computed tomography rotations.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Radiation Science Technology or a Post-Baccalaureate Professional Certificate is awarded upon completion of the program. Graduates are eligible to take the national examinations for certification in Nuclear Medicine offered by either the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
"The UNMC NM program is special because it offers students the opportunity to rotate through very different clinical settings (private, public, and federal). Students also are able to rotate through the nuclear pharmacy which helped me understand the radiopharmaceuticals used more. The small class size and access to a big nuclear imaging department is also a plus. As a student at UNMC, I have access to great scholarship opportunities and awesome facilities that offer plenty of space for students to study and interact. At UNMC I get to experience being part of a big university, unlike other small colleges in the area." - Ahmed Naciri, Class of 2014
