Your application to the UNMC Dietetic Internship Program is a three step process:
Step 1: UNMC On-line Application

Complete the basic demographics portion of the online UNMC application and submit payment for the application fee ($45) by 11:59 PM CST on February 16, 2010. Applications from foreign students must include evidence of passing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
NOTE: The UNMC on-line application identifies Medical Nutrition (UNMC Dietetic Internship Program) as an Undergraduate program because, although it provides graduate coursework, it does not confer a graduate degree upon completion.

Step 2: UNMC Dietetic Internship Program Application Packet (hard copy)
This is the application packet that will be used by the Selection Committee for Computer Matching for the 2010-2011 academic year. Please follow all instructions carefully. The selection committee can only review applications that are complete.
Submit a hard copy application packet postmarked by February 16, 2010. Please send materials by receipted mail for proof of mailing date and delivery. Application materials become the property of the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The following materials are required for your application packet to be complete:

  1. Dietetic Internship Program Application form (American Dietetic Association – Revised 2005). Download and complete the form from the American Dietetic Association Dietetic Educators of Practitioners Practice Group website at http://www.depdpg.org/
  2. Letter of application. The letter should be typewritten and no more than two pages in length. It should be presented on unlined paper in business format and include your handwritten signature. Please be candid and informative, as this is the primary opportunity to give us a glimpse of who you are and what you value. Suggested content includes:
    • Reason for selecting dietetics as a profession and any career goals you have identified at this point in your education process
    • How your life experiences, work, education and leadership activities have prepared you for a dietetic internship program and for the dietetics profession
    • Your reasons for applying to the UNMC Dietetic Internship Program and your expectations from the internship – how our program fits with your current goals
    • Your interest/expectation regarding pursuing a graduate degree as a short-term or long-term goal
    • Qualities that will help you to be successful in completing our internship program
  3. Official transcript(s) in sealed envelopes, from each college/university attended, which are verified as original and official by the registrar. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required but may be included as an optional information item for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  4. Resume.  The resume should be one page in length and should include the following information:
    • Name/Address/Telephone Number
    • Career Objective
    • Education
    • Work Experience
    • Honors/Scholarships
    • Activities/Organizations
    • Skills/Interests
  5. Declaration of Intent to Complete Degree OR Verification Statement signed by the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Director.
    If the DPD was completed five (5) years or more prior to application to the UNMC Dietetic Internship Program, recency of education requirements must be met. They are as follows:
    • 6 semester hours or 9 quarter hours of nutrition coursework if the DPD requirements were met 5-10 years prior to application; 
    • 12 semester or 18 quarter hours of nutrition coursework, within the past five (5) years, if the DPD requirements were met more that ten (10) years prior to application to the UNMC Dietetic Internship Program.
      Transcript(s) for this coursework must be provided.
  6. Three recommendations (photocopies with original signatures are acceptable). Those providing recommendations should complete the ADA Recommendation Form, which can be downloaded from this website or obtained from the American Dietetic Association website at.  http://www.depdpg.org/ The narrative portion of the form may be substituted with a separate letter of reference.
     Recommendation forms/letters should be included in the application packet in sealed envelopes. Recommendations should be provided by:
    • Your academic advisor or DPD Program Director
    • A major professor
    • Recent or most relevant work supervisor (if you do not have paid or volunteer work experience, another professor may serve as the third reference)

Step 3: Computer Matching
Applicants must register with D&D Digital online at www.dnddigital.com, pay the $50.00 computer matching fee by credit card, enter contact information and DI priority choices by 11:59 PM CST on February 16, 2010.
The UNMC Dietetic Internship Program participates in the nationwide computer match process to fill all openings.

UNMC Dietetic Internship Program Selection Procedure:
The UNMC Dietetic Internship openings are filled through participation in the nationwide computer matching process in April of each year. A selection committee, comprised of adjunct clinical instructors and preceptors, identifies and prioritizes computer match list candidates from the pool of qualified applicants. Selection criteria include:

  1. Scholastic ability indicated by grade point averages (overall GPA, professional sciences, physical and biological sciences, behavioral and social sciences, communication sciences, elective coursework) and, if applicable, recency of education coursework.
  2. Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of work experience, including paid and volunteer experience.
  3. Other activities, including extra curricular and community service experiences, and the degree of leadership exhibited in these areas.
  4. Communication skills, personal, and professional attributes, as demonstrated through application content and letters of reference.

The list of prioritized qualified applicants to the UNMC Dietetic Internship Program is submitted for nationwide computer matching in late March for the April match.

Notification Day: Applicant matching results will be posted on www.dnddigital.com/ from 6:00 PM Central time, April 5, 2010, through April 7, 2010 (Appointment Day). This is the ONLY source of notification for applicants.
Appointment Day: If you are matched to the UNMC Dietetic Internship Program, you must contact the Program Director (Glenda Woscyna) by telephone (402-559-7365) or FAX (402-559-7420) on or before 5:00 PM Central Time, April 7, 2010, to confirm acceptance of the MATCH.
