Perioperative Blood Management
The Perioperative Blood Management (PBM) program, an on-line educational opportunity offered by Clinical Perfusion Education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, is open to anyone practicing perioperative blood management at any level. We utilize synchronous and asynchronous tools to bring flexibility but maintain a live personalized approach for your busy lifestyle and schedule. This is the perfect delivery of necessary training for those practicing autotransfusion in your institution!
Each session consists of five 8-hour days that include a comfortable mix of synchronous and asynchronous classroom activities to be enjoyed from the comforts of the location of your choice. Sessions currently begin on a Tuesday and are refreshed each day through the completion on Saturday. There are brief live sessions each morning (60 min), then a 3-hour media rich "fireside chat" live interaction with faculty and staff of the University of Nebraska Medical Center and course participants. The sessions can be completed without even taking a day off work; however, please recognize that each scheduled day is a full eight hour experience.
Our program includes an online pre- and post-test, the results of which are known only to you. CEUs are awarded based on your active participation, not from passing the tests. The course is conducted via our interactive web-interface educational platform. The ABCP has awarded 53.1 SDCEUs. You can view the ABCPs guidelines on their website.

The registration fee for all six days and on-line tool access is currently $650, plus an additional $150 for those requesting CEUs. Any fees associated with computer access or long distance telephone service are not included and are the participant's responsibility. A serialized embossed certificate is awarded for participation.

Feel confident in our unbiased, university-based training for you or your staff. Our UNMC faculty are academically trained in educational technology and have more than six years experience in applying the technology in extracorporeal science. More importantly, the participants are afforded LIVE access to the faculty. Though the program is by distance-delivery, the responsibility for progress is shared between the individual and the faculty. Our “personalized” approach is unique in distance-education. We don’t just turn the participant loose with a bunch of web-screens to navigate on their own.
This didactic supplementation will more than prepare you for the coming AmSECT credentials in perioperative blood management.
