On the frosty evening of January 8, 2010, a full Durham Research Center auditorium witnessed the induction of 50 first-year Physical Therapy students into the University of Nebraska Medical Center physical therapy program.
The ceremony, sponsored by the UNMC Physical Therapy Alumni Chapter, began with a warm welcoming from Physical Therapy Alumni Chapter board president Nick Reiss, MPT, ’00, DPT, 05’ and Greg M. Karst, PT, PhD, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Allied Health Professions Professor, Division of Physical Therapy Education.
Gilbert M. Willett, BSPT, ’87, MS, ’94, PhD, ’06, Division of Physical Therapy Interim Director then introduced the faculty.
After introductions, was a presentation from Wayne A. Stuberg, BPT, ’77, MS, ’80, PhD, ’89, Director, Monroe-Meyer Institute Physical Therapy, titled “Wayne’s World: Physical Therapy as a Profession and Passion.”
As Dr. Stuberg completed his presentation, the highlight of the evening ensued. The 50 incoming students were called to the auditorium stage as Dr. Reiss presented the white coats. The first-year students then recited an oath of professionalism and descended on the Durham Research Center atrium for a receptions with family and friends.
Donations from UNMC alumni helped pay for the white coats students received and will wear until graduation.
