Honorary Alumnus Award: Edward B. "Ted" Roche, PhD

Biography
Honorary Alumnus Award

Ted Roche, PhDEdward B. (Ted) Roche received his BS in Pharmacy (1961) and his MS in Medicinal Chemistry (1963) from Butler University. While completing his MS degree, he practiced community pharmacy part time in Indianapolis. He still holds an active Indiana license. He received his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in 1966 from the Ohio State University. After completing his PhD he joined the faculty of the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy, where he is currently Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

From 1980-2003, Dr. Roche served the College as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In the latter role he was responsible for all academic aspects of the professional program from admission to commencement. After retiring from administration in 2003, Dr. Roche returned to the Department of Pharmaceutical Science to teach medicinal chemistry. In 2004 he received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Butler University, and in 2008, he received the UNMC College of Pharmacy’s Distinguished Teaching Award. In 2009, The Ohio State University awarded him with the Jack L. Beal Postgraduate Award. Dr. Roche co-authored the textbook Inorganic Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, which was published in 1974. He was active in the former APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, serving as Secretary and Vice Chair of the Medicinal Chemistry Section. He became a Charter Member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and served the Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry (now Drug Design and Discovery) Section through all of the offices including Chair (1994). He has also served the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy as an administrative and faculty delegate, and twice served as Chair of the Section of  Teachers of Chemistry (1986 and 2004).  

Dr. Roche’s community service interests center around the performing arts in the greater Omaha metropolitan area. He is married to Victoria Roche, who is a faculty member and Senior Associate Dean at the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.
