UNMC Simulation Symposium

If you desire a new approach to CME, join us for the annual UNMC simulation symposium and Anesthesia Update.    Designed to prepare practicing anesthesiologists and anesthesia residents for upcoming MOCA requirements, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a fully immersive experience in our high definition simulation lab.   Gain familiarity with the simulator through a variety of scenarios in a safe, encouraging environment.   When not in the simulation lab, join our faculty to discuss updates on the care of the surgical patient including echocardiography for non-cardiac surgery, acute pain management, care of the pediatric patient and fluid management.

Occurs annually in spring.  2013 dates to be announced.

Moderate Sedation for the Non-Anesthesia Provider

Hundreds of thousands of procedures requiring moderate sedation are performed in the United States every year.   Unsafe sedation practices may lead to patient discomfort or even potentially fatal adverse outcomes.  This course is designed to provide non-anesthesiologists the tools and knowledge to safely administer moderate sedation.  Tailored to physicians or nurses or a combination of both, information is provided with an innovative multimodal approach.   Utilizing both interactive lecture and written materials, basic goals of sedation, pharmacology of common agents and management of common complications are discussed.   Hands-on skills stations allow participants to gain necessary mechanical skills.   Participants can then apply the knowledge and skills they’ve gained to several high definition simulation scenarios designed to “bring it all together.”  This course can be customized to fit your moderate sedation needs by providing information for a specific provider mix with an emphasis on teamwork in the procedure suite.
