Simulation is one part of an effort to provide state of the art educational opportunities. Ongoing research is being conducted to improve how practicing and future physicians progress in their profession. Current research projects include:

  • Comparison of High-Fidelity Simulation and Clinical Instruction for orientation of first Year Anesthesia residents.
    (IRB# 262-09-EX)
    • Does simulation provide a better experience for novice residents entering the OR? This multi-year study examines the effect of simulation on CA-1 comfort level, performance and knowledge acquisition.
  • Effect of auditory distraction on knowledge acquisition in the Operating Room. (Pending IRB approval)
    • Anesthesia residents are taught “on the job” in the operating room. Knowledge is given while vigilance must be maintained for patient care. Does this environment optimize resident learning? Subjects will be asked to perform memory recall tasks with varying pulse oximetry tones.
