Teri Gabel, PharmD, BCPP

Teri Gabel is the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Mental Health for the VA Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System. Dr. Gabel is a Volunteer Faculty member with the UNMC Department of Psychiatry and in a past life was an Assistant Professor for the UNMC College of Pharmacy and lectured on Psychiatric Therapeutics, Substance abuse and Herbal Medicines. Dr. Gabel completed a Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency and is Board Certified in Psychiatry Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Gabel has advanced training in natural medicines as another area of expertise. She is Co-Founder of Drug Therapy Consultants, PC through which she provides pharmacy consulting and educational programming. Dr. Gabel enjoys teaching and is an invited speaker providing continuing education and other educational programming in the Nebraska/Western Iowa area, regionally and nationally.

Dr. Gabel is currently working with BHECN on the depression modules and will be providing psychopharmacology education programming to health care professionals across the state of Nebraska. Her most recent endeavor is as a radio talk show host on “It’s Your Health with Dr. Teri” on KCRO 660AM.

  • Pharmacotherapy of Major Psychiatric Disorders
    Presentations include a review of the disorders, diagnostic and monitoring tools, and a review of the medications used in the management of these disorders. Side effects, drug interactions and other information regarding medication use and medication selection is addressed. Non-pharmacologic and life style interventions are presented.
    Time: approximate per disorder 1-2 hours.
  • Pharmacotherapy of Substance Use Disorders
    Presentations provide information on substance of use, the cycle of addiction and the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions available. Outpatient management of withdrawal syndromes can also be presented.
    Time: approximate per disorder 1-2 hours.
  • Overview of Psychopharmacotherapy
    A comprehensive presentation covering the management of psychiatric disorders. It includes an overview of each group of disorders, tools for diagnosis and management, and pharmacologic interventions and monitoring. The depth of the presentation can be adapted to the length of time desired and the audience.
    Time: approximate 2 - 6 hours depending on depth.
  • Population Based Presentations Psychiatric Medications in the Geriatric Population
    An overview of the use of psychiatric medications in the elderly population.
    Time: 1-2 hours.
  • Natural Medicines in Mental Health
    An overview of the natural medicine products used in the management of mental illness. Evidence for / reasons for use, drug interactions, and side effects are addressed.
    Time: approximate per disorder 1-2 hours.
