FIRE ALARM SYSTEM TESTING
 
On Monday, November 24, 2008, the new fire detection and alarm devices associated with the new elevators will be activated and tested to verify proper operation. Testing will be witnessed by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s representative and may include verification of new smoke detectors and elevator recall functions, and may also include operation/verification of audible/visible fire alarms throughout the building. When the Fire Marshal’s representative is on site, operation/verification of audible/visible alarms, if required, should not take more than 5 minutes. This testing is considered as a follow-up Final Acceptance Test for the elevator upgrades project as required by the National Fire Alarm Code.

Disruption Schedule: 

  • Commence Time:   Monday, November 24, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. 
  • Completion/End Time:  Monday, November 24, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. (approximately) 

Please note that portions of the existing/new fire detection and alarm systems may be momentarily disabled at times during the testing.  During this time, the Contractor will be performing a “fire watch” of the disabled fire alarm zone.  Any occupants of the Administration Center that observe or smell smoke and/or fire should immediately call UNMC Security Dispatch at 559-5555.

DOMESTIC HOT WATER INTERRUPTION 

On Thursday, November 29, 2008, the domestic hot water will be turned off in the Eppley Science Hall building.  This will affect all levels and areas in the building except the Animal Area’s cage washers.  There will be no domestic hot water to any of the bathrooms, kitchens or labs during this interruption. 

Start Time:   Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 6:00 p.m.

End Time:    Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 12:00 Midnight   (Approximately) 

This interruption of the domestic hot water is needed, so that our plumbers can repair a broken valveIf you have any questions, please contact Terry Vail at 559-6342.  Since it is vital that everyone working in Eppley Science Hall be aware of the interruption/shut-down, please mention it to your colleagues.

Wittson Hall Dock Closure

Thursday, November 13, 2008, the Wittson Hall loading dock will be closed. The closure is necessary for the lifting of equipment onto the roof of Bennett Hall. If anyone has questions regarding this closure please contact Rick Kmiecik as soon as possible, so that FM&P department can make the proper arrangements or adjustments.  

This closure is necessary to reinstall the strobic fans on the roof of Bennett Hall that were damaged during the summer storms.

ELECTRICAL POWER INTERRUPTION (All Levels)

On Tuesday, November 4, 2008, there will be a momentary interruption (shut off) of normal electrical power to the main electrical switchboard that serves all levels of Swanson Hall. This will cause a brief outage of all air handling units, supply fans, exhaust fans, fume hoods, lighting, receptacles, motors, computers, etc. throughout the building.  This shut off is required to facilitate electrical work on the existing underground high voltage cables feeding the UNMC campus.

Commence Time: Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at 6:30 a.m. (0630 hrs.) 

Completion/End Time:  Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at 6:40 a.m. (0640 hrs.) approximately

Emile Street Closing:  Between Saddle Creek and Durham Research Plaza

On Saturday, October 18, 2008, a section of Emile Street will be closed to through traffic between Saddle Creek and Durham Research Plaza (45th Street).  This closure is due to construction work on the RCE-II building.  The contractor will be installing glass to the west stair tower.  All lanes of traffic will be closed during this time.

Shut Down of Fume Hoods and Bio Safety Cabinet Exhaust Fans
Exhaust Fans #3, #4, #5, #6, #8, #9, #13, and #14  

The Hoods and Bio Safety Cabinet Exhaust Fans interruption/shutdown will be on Thursday,  October 9, 2008, starting at 5:00 a.m..  This will affect Eppley Science Hall levels 1 through 10, Eppley Cancer Institute levels 1 through 6 and Poynter Hall levels 3 through 6.

Start Time:  Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 5:00am    
End Time: Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 7:30am (Approximately)

UNMC’s Preventative / Building Maintenance staff will be changing filters in the fume hoods and bio safety cabinet exhaust fans that affect these buildings.   This work should take only 2-1/2 hours to complete.  If you have any questions, please contact Joe Clark at 559-1356.  Since it is vital that everyone working in ESH, ECI and PYH be aware of the shutdown, please mention it to your colleagues.

Skywalk Closing (entrance and exit doors to and from the skywalk closed)

Beginning Monday, October 6, at 6:00 a.m. the skywalk that connects Wittson Hall and the Michael Sorrell Center will be closed for one week (7 days). The closure is due to the removal and installation of doors at the Wittson Hall’s skywalk entrance.
