Science Direct Journals- Access Restored

Access to all Science Direct journals has been restored.  We apologize for the inconvenience that the downtime may have caused.

ScienceDirect journals

ScienceDirect journals are currently inaccessible.  The company has been advised of this problem.  If you require an article in one of these journals, please try back later in the day.  If you need an article that is necessary for immediate patient care, please request the item through McGoogan Docs and include a note that it is for patient care.  These requests will be free of charge.  We apologize for this inconvenience.

Change is afoot on the library website!

You may have noticed a new look to some of the pages within the library’s main website.  These pages were created with the product LibGuides, a Web 2.0 tool that makes it easier for the library to bring content to the various specialized groups and interests at UNMC.

Some of the focused pages for groups include:

Web of Science upgrade on Sunday, October 19

Beginning at 7am local time, Web of Science may have disruptions due to upgrading activities. Here is the note from Thomson Reuters, parent company of Web of Science:

“Maintenance Alert

Thomson Reuters will be upgrading ISI Web of Knowledge on Sunday, October 19, 2008, beginning at 8 AM EDT. There will be disruptions to ISI Web of Knowledge and EndNote Web throughout the day. We apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause.”

“Secure Connection Failed” warnings in Firefox

Here are the steps that are needed to gain access to several library resources (including RefWorks) when the Firefox ”Secure Connection Failed” warning appears. 1) When the “Secure Connection Failed” message appears while you are trying to access a Library resource, click on the “Or you can add an exception” link. 2) The display will change slightly. Click on the “Add Exception” button that appears. 3) The “Add Security Exception” dialog box will appear.   Click on the “Get Certificate” button. 4) The display will change slightly. Click on the “Confirm Security Exception” button. 5) When you click on RefWorks in the future, you may be warned about the bad security certificate and, if prompted, should click the button or link that indicates your desire to continue to the website.

Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) students tour the Library today

Students participating in the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) are visiting the Library today as part of their campus tours. We welcome them to the Library and to campus, and wish them the best in their academic careers.

If you know of a high school student in rural Nebraska that is interested in a health career, please let them know about RHOP.

McGoogan Library of Medicine welcomes UNMC Alumni Weekend visitors

We welcome all UNMC Alumni Weekend “One class-World class” visitors as they visit the library and the campus. Come and see first-hand how the current students, faculty and staff have their biomedical information needs met through expert librarian assistance, world-wide library networks, and technology. Visit the Rare Book Rooms, and check out the honor years’ medical graduates’ theses.

The collection was bought with a generous donation from Walter Friedlander, M.D. and his late wife Alice in memory of their late son, John.

The subjects are in the area of medical history, ethics, and medical humanities. Come by the New Book area on the 6^th Floor and check it out!
