Over the past 30 years, the largest area of job growth for biomedical Ph.D.s has been in the private sector, with positions in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and other industries.
Currently, over 40% of the jobs for biomedical Ph.D. graduates are in industry, and many of these jobs have business elements such as management, finance, marketing or intellectual property.
The Business for Bioscientists Certificate Program provides M.S. and Ph.D. bioscience students with a fundamental background in business to enhance employment opportunities and success in industry as well as in academia.
Students eligible for the Business for Bioscientists Certificate Program include Ph.D. students at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and M.S. students in the Biology Department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).
Entry into either UNMC’s Ph.D. program or UNO’s M.S. program requires a bachelor’s degree.
The only prerequisite for the program is prior coursework in statistics.
Ph.D. students at UNMC receive a full competitive stipend, health insurance and tuition.
