Getting Started

Data may be requested by any UNMC or The Nebraska Medical Center physician, staff or students, with the approval of their mentor, principal investigator or manager.  An initial consultation to discuss the feasibility and requirements of your project is recommended, please contact the EHR Director, Dr. Purnima Guda.  Assistance with filling out the EHR Research Request form may be requested from the Associate Research Subject Advocate, Deborah Meyer, RN.


What Does the EHR Research Core Provide?

The major services of this core facility are data acquisition and retrieval for clinical and translational research.  This may include:

  • feasibility studies
  • cross-sectional studies
  • health outcomes
  • retrospective data analysis
  • quality improvement projects
  • transfer of datasets to a registry
  • case finding for subject recruitment
  • public health research


Protected Health Information
Protected Health Information (PHI) is information that is very specific to the individual such as birth date, telephone number, and social security number, that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was intended to protect, so as to protect individual patient confidentiality.
