From Bench to Bedside
Translational research as defined by the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research is "the process of applying discoveries generated during research in the laboratory, and in preclinical studies, to the development of trials and studies in humans". Translational research also "concerns research aimed at enhancing the adoption of best practices in the community. Cost-effectiveness of prevention and treatment strategies is also an important part of translational science".
To expand translational research, UNMC focuses on its areas of research strength to grow those areas into larger translational research teams. By bringing together basic science, patient- oriented, and public health researchers UNMC is moving discoveries from the laboratory into patient care more rapidly.
