Pre-Medical Programs

Undergraduate students interested in health care careers can participate in several programs.

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a six-week academic enrichment program for freshman and sophomore students hosted at 13 institutions across the nation. UNMC’s program aims to strengthen the academic proficiency of students underrepresented in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health, and Physician’s Assistant Studies to prepare them for successful application and matriculation to health professions schools.

The M.D./Ph.D. Summer Undergraduate Research Program is an opportunity for students who are interested in patient care and research. Students in this program explore physician-scientist career tracks and gain valuable lab experience.

The UNMC High School Alliance program is a health sciences program that partners with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and public school districts in the greater Omaha area. The program is designed to offer unique and innovative science classes to high school juniors and seniors. The Alliance provides each student with the opportunity to observe, shadow and work alongside health care professionals and researchers at UNMC.
