College of Medicine Joseph P. Gilmore Distinguished New Investigator Award
This award is sponsored by the Dean of the College of Medicine and the department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology.  2001 was the first year that the Joseph P. Gilmore Distinguished New Investigator Award and the Outstanding Investigator Award were combined.  The purpose of the combined award is to recognize the research accomplishments of faculty who are emerging as outstanding independent investigators. The award winner is recognized at a symposium and reception and receives a cash prize of $2,000.  Those eligible include all faculty holding a primary appointment in the College of Medicine at the Assistant Professor level with demonstrated excellence and productivity in research.  The award recognizes the accomplishments of faculty doing biomedical research. Selection of awardees is based on research accomplishments as evidenced by journal publications and extramural research funding based primarily on work accomplished subsequent to the initial faculty appointment at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine.  Final selection will follow an in-depth review and evaluation of the research accomplishments of the nominated candidates by the Research and Development Committee.
