Visiting Students

Information for visiting students

  • Initial requests for elective time at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine from students attending U.S. medical schools or osteopathic schools should be sent to the Office of Admissions and Students.
  • Please contact Sue Pope by Email spope@unmc.edu following information:
    1. Student name and home address
    2. Name of medical school.
    3. Area of interest.
    4. Dates available for elective – Electives are not available for visiting students during the months of April, May or June.
  • An email response will include the following:
    1. Copy of Elective Handbook or appropriate sections.
    2. Medical Student Application Form for an Elective.
  • The application form requires documentation that:
    1. The student is in good academic standing at their institution.
    2. The student has completed all basic science courses and required junior clerkships prior to the elective.
    3. The student must be at the senior level of medical school at the time of the proposed elective.
    4. Visiting students are not accepted into third year junior clerkships.
    5. Approval from medical school official.
  • Upon receipt of the completed application form, the Office of Admissions and Students will determine if space is available in the elective required and time period desired before inquiry is made to the appropriate department.
  • If approval is granted, the application form will be completed and mailed in the appropriate manner:
    1. Original: Student
    2. Copies to the student's medical school and UNMC department
  • The University of Nebraska College of Medicine does not accept application for electives from students attending foreign medical schools and non-LCME accredited institutions.
