AAALAC Accreditation

The Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC, International) is a private non-profit organization for voluntary peer review and accreditation of laboratory animal care facilities and programs worldwide. It requires standards which are appreciably higher than the minimal standards of the Animal Welfare Act. The Animal Care and Use Program at UNMC has been fully accredited by AAALAC since 1966. The published standards by which AAALAC evaluates animal care and use is the The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, National Academy of Sciences, Eighth Edition. Therefore, this publication constitutes the primary set of guidelines for animal care at UNMC.
