The use of laboratory animals in research and teaching is a fundamental necessity for continued progress in the biomedical sciences. The use of animals in biomedical research, teaching and testing constitutes a special privilege to the scientific community. Therefore, it is incumbent upon each investigator and his/her staff to fulfill both moral and legal responsibilities regarding the humane care and use of animals. Comparative Medicine is available to help support these aims.
