Dr. Duncan is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he also completed residencies in both General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a Cardiothoracic Surgery research fellowship.  He also accomplished a Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in London, England, and a Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

A sampling of Dr. Kim Duncan's publications

 

Dr. Duncan first practiced in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where he served as chief of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at Children’s Hospital.  In 1993, Dr. Duncan relocated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), Omaha.  He functioned as a clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatrics and as an associate professor in the Department of Surgery.  He also served as director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Children’s Hospital.  In April 2005, Dr. Duncan accepted the position of Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UNMC, where he now holds the rank of Professor of Surgery.

 

Dr. Duncan is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery), and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (General Surgery).  He has lectured internationally and has authored more than a dozen book chapters and manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Dr. Duncan and his wife, Valerie - also a physician, reside in Omaha. They are the parents of three college-age children - all are pursuing medical careers.
