Rudy P. Lackner, M.D.

LacknerDr. Lackner is a graduate of New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York.  He accomplished his General Surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, New York.  He completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery Research Fellowship and a Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at the University of Chicago.  He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor Science in Biology from Manhattan College, Bronx, New York, and was certified as a paramedic in New York State prior to attending medical school.

Dr. Lackner first practiced in Omaha from 1994 to 1999, when he served as chief of the Section of Thoracic Surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital and directed the Lung Transplantation Program and Comprehensive Thoracic Oncology Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Following a four-year period as chief of the Division of General Thoracic Surgery with the North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New York, Dr. Lackner returned to UNMC where he is now associate professor of Surgery.

 

Certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the American Board of Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Lackner has been repeatedly recognized by "Best Doctors in New York" and "Best Doctors in America: Central Region."  He has numerous publications and presentations to his credit and has served as Guest Reviewer for Chest, Annals of Thoracic Surgery and The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.

 

Dr. Lackner and his wife, Carol, reside in Omaha and are the parents of four children.
