Course Description:

Endodontic treatment is a highly successful and predictable clinical procedure. However, managing the patient with pulp pathosis and immature apical development is challenging and less predictable. Vital pulp treatment, the barrier technique, and regenerative/revascularization are contemporary treatment options that give the clinician treatment options with enhanced clinical outcomes. This presentation will review treatment techniques and options for teeth with pulp pathosis and incomplete root development using a case-based format.

Educational Objectives:

  • Describe the treatment options for managing the tooth with incomplete root development.
  • List the disadvantages to traditional apexification techniques.
  • Describe challenges of cleaning, shaping, and obturation of teeth with pulp necrosis and an open apical configuration.
  • Discuss the biologic basis for using mineral trioxide aggregate in treatment.
  • Discuss pulp regenerative procedures and expected clinical outcomes

Method of teaching: Lecture/discussion
