About the Speaker:
Dr. Uhl Donovan, DDS (1962), Certificate in Fixed Prosthodontics (1970), is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Dentistry, Kansas City. Dr. Donovan had a private practice in Deadwood, SD from 1962 to 1968. In July of 1968, Dr. Donovan entered the graduate program in fixed prosthodontics and earned his certificate in fixed prosthodontics in June of 1970. In 1970, Dr. Donovan became a faculty member at UMKC in the area of fixed prosthodontics and he taught there until 1973. In August of 1973, Dr. Donovan joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry to direct the section of fixed prosthodontics in the department of Adult Restorative Dentistry. He retired from the UNMC COD in July, 1992, after teaching subjects in preclinical fixed prosthodontics, dental anatomy, occlusion and advanced fixed prosthodontics to juniors and seniors and esthetic dentistry. Dr. Donovan taught part time following his retirement in the graduate division of fixed prosthodontics.
Course Description
This presentation will show numerous procedures using fixed prosthodontics in treating dental patients. It will highlight principles to attain esthetic results. The course will focus on conservative approaches using ¾ crown and full coverage, both full cast and porcelain-fused-to-metal, abutments for fixed restorations including fixed partial dentures and individual teeth. Pin ledge castings will also be discussed. Principles of esthetic dentistry will focus primarily on anterior teeth with some information regarding posterior esthetics. Esthetic dentistry will cover tooth form, tooth position, direct bond restorations, porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations and cosmetic reshaping.
