Application Procedures
Students who have completed pre-dental hygiene study and are ready to apply for admission to the Dental Hygiene Program should begin the 2-step application process. Questions, concerns and/or difficulties with the online application process should be directed to Glenda Cunning, College of Dentistry Admissions, at 402-472-1363, or Rita Charles, DH Department Office Associate, at 402-472-1433.
Dental Hygiene Admissions Process consists of 2 STEPS:
Step #1: SUBMIT ON-LINE ADMISSION APPLICATION AFTER OCTOBER 1st and complete as directed in the online application. An application processing fee is required for all dental hygiene program applicants. A non-refundable application fee of $50.00 is required in the on-line application process.
Step #2: MAIL a Support Documents Packet AFTER completing and submitting the application and $50 fee ON-LINE.
The Support Documents Packet must include:
- Application Cover Sheet
- Official HS transcript (in a sealed envelope from the high school)
- Official College transcript (in sealed envelope from ALL institutions you
have attended) - Letter(s) of Recommendation in sealed envelope(s) from recommender (optional)
- ACT/SAT scores
- Application Essay
- Recent photo (optional)

The Department of Dental Hygiene accepts twenty-four students into the program each year. Applicants must have a minimum total grade point average of 2.5. (The average GPA for the entering classes of the past 5 years has been 3.5.)
Students are urged to begin the application procedures after October 1st to be considered for the next years incoming fall class. The completed on-line application with paid fee and the mailed Support Documents Packet must be received by the Department of Dental Hygiene no later than February 1st. A personal interview may be requested with members of the Dental Hygiene Admissions Committee. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is an equal opportunity institution and all qualified minorities are urged to apply.
Upon notice of acceptance for admission to the dental hygiene program, a letter of intent to enroll and a deposit of $200.00 are required. The full amount of the deposit applies toward payment of tuition and fees when the student enrolls. All applicants are notified of their acceptance or rejection by the Dental Hygiene Admissions Committee.
Applicants will be accepted who present evidence of intellectual promise and strong personal qualifications, including good moral character and the desire to serve the public. Consideration is given to personal emotional maturity and professional motivation. Students selected must be committed to scholarly pursuits and have career goals compatible with the philosophy of the baccalaureate program.
