Welcome to the Department of Hospital Dentistry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry.  Located on the campus of the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, the Department of Hospital Dentistry is comprised of two sections; the Postgraduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry and the General Practice Residency.  The Department was formed by act of the Board of Regents on June 12, 2006 and became a functioning academic unit on July 1, 2006.  The Department’s purpose is to train postgraduate dental residents in the delivery of comprehensive health care in a variety of environments, to function as part of team of health care providers and to be actively engaged in the community as professionals.  The department seeks to foster individual program growth and development that is consistent with their respective disciplines while also developing integrated learning and clinical care opportunities in the promotion of collegial respect, professionalism and improved transitional patient care.  The department strives to be an integral part of a growing academic health care institution by contributing to its teaching, research and service mission.

The department currently employs 3 (1.0 FTE) full time faculty members and relies upon 11 part-time faculty members during its academic year.  The contributions made by our part-time faculty are significant and greatly enhance the education experience of our residents in support our full time faculty.  The department is also home to over 16 support staff personnel.  In addition to their clinic and didactic activities, the residents and faculty of the Department provide The Nebraska Medical Center with an estimated 6,672 hours of after-hours call during the course of the year.  The department and its graduate programs also participate in numerous health fairs and community service events.  The residents and faculty impact the lives of over 1000 individuals each year by providing over 136 hours of service related activities.
