Nebraska Practice Opportunities

A Message from Veronica McManamon, Undergraduate Program Coordinator

Nebraska Scenic Road

Greetings,

I want to extend a warm thank you to everyone who participated in the 2010 Opportunities Fair. Once again it was a big success. It was wonderful seeing some familiar faces this year and quite a few new attendees as well.

We host this program at the college; once again we were at capacity. We set up vendor tables in the lower level and we can generally comfortably support 24 – 25 tables. We had 26 guest vendors this past November.

Student participation was at an all time high. Not only did our senior D4 students participate and visit with our various guests but a number of underclassman spent time at tables as well. The halls were abuzz for a couple of hours.

Next November will be an exciting event for dental practitioners and students alike. In addition to the annual Opportunities Fair, we are fortunate to have Eugene Heller, DDS, of Henry Schein® here to present Successful Career Transition Seminar: Maximizing the Return on Investment for Your Dental Practice. Dr. Heller is the vice president and national director of Henry Schein® Professional Practice Transitions.

The seminar will cover the development of an exit strategy, a brief overview of various transition options that every practicing dentist will experience, from outright sale and retirement through and including the various ways a transition can begin as an associateship leading to an eventual partial or total sale.

He will also cover preparing the practice itself for transition. Discussions will center around substantially increasing the dentist’s bottom line during their years of practice leading up to the actual transition, but also increase the likelihood of transition and the ultimate sale price. And those areas will also enhance the value of the practice being acquired by the new dentist owner. For those new dentists, it will teach them what to look for in a dental practice associateship or ownership opportunity.

As you know it’s become a tradition to host these events on a Friday before a home football game. We schedule these out well in advance and before putting this event on the college calendar, I always check the Husker’s Football Schedule. Now the Husker’s are part of the Big 10 and the old schedule is out the window. But, we lucked out! The 2011 Opportunities Fair and Seminar will he held on Friday, November 4, 2011 and the Huskers play here at home against Northwestern. So plan ahead and mark your calendars now for this event and plan to come to Lincoln the weekend of November 4, 2011.

Look for updates on this great opportunity throughout the coming year.
