Presenter:
Darlene Carritt is a dental hygiene graduate of the UNMC College of Dentistry. She has practiced clinical dental hygiene for more than 30 years and has been a part-time instructor at the UNMC College of Dentistry dental hygiene department since 1985. She served 10 years as a member of the Nebraska Board of Dental Examiners and has been a dental hygiene examiner and coordinator for Central Regional Dental Testing Service since 1990.

Course Description:
A board approved professional techniques course on coronal polishing including didactic instruction and clinical participation for the dental auxiliary.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize dental anatomy and physiology of the hard and soft tissues of the deciduous and permanent oral facial complex.
  • Understand the correct management of the hard/soft tissues during coronal polishing procedures.
  • Know appropriate patient and operator positions.
  • Identify universal precautions and infection control.
  • Perform laboratory exercises utilizing manikins or extracted teeth.
  • Apply indications and contraindications for coronal polishing, armamentarium, and principles of polishing agents.
