Extramural Rotations

Extramural Rotation Program

The extramural program currently exists to give dental students/residents the opportunity to experience dentistry from the perspective of a private practice office, public health clinic, or other community dental setting. Most of these training experiences provide dental services for rural and underserved populations.  The extramural program is the College of Dentistry’s main tool in providing service learning opportunities for students and residents.

Currently the extramural program provides each forth-year dental student with the opportunity to spend 4-6 weeks on a rural health rotation. In 2013, the senior dental students will each spend 6 weeks on rotation. At least one of these rotations will occur in a Nebraska public health clinic. There are approximately 50 UNMC Dental Preceptor sites where students may fulfill their extramural training requirement.
