Speaker :

Dr. Darnell earned her Bachelor of Science in Engineering in biomedical engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the first student to participate in a dual DMD/PhD program between the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and The Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering. She wasawarded the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Darnell is a member of the Materials Research Society, the American Dental Education Association, and the American Association of Dental Research. She is a university representative for the Conference of Operative Dentistry Educators and is on the scientific advisory board of Image Navigation Ltd. Dr. Darnell has an enthusiasm for education and serves as a mentor to dental students. She is also very actively involved in integrating technology into the dental school curriculum. She regularly lectures on topics including material science, dental biomaterials and esthetic dentistry.

Course Description:

Advances in Dental Materials - Dental Materials is an ever-changing field with new products coming into the market continuously. This course will present clinical research on the latest developments in restorative materials including various composite resins and cements. In addition, coatings of dental implants will be discussed in order to optimize strategies for success in patients with compromised healing.
