Rural Outreach Behavioral Health Clinics
The Behavioral Health Clinics are specialty clinics which provide services to children, adolescents, and their families for developmental, behavioral, emotional, social, and academic problems. These clinics are a cooperative effort between community pediatricians/family practice physicians and the Psychology Department at the Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI), at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. Faculty and staff from MMI are specially trained in behavioral pediatric psychology. Services are provided in primary care offices to allow for close communication between the medical and behavioral professionals.
MMI Faculty and staff work closely with your child’s primary care physician to provide comprehensive assessment and treatment for a wide range of problems at home and school, including:
-
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
-
Oppositional, defiant, aggressive, and destructive behaviors

Children are referred by their primary care physician. Usually, both the child and parents attend all sessions. During the first session, parents are interviewed to determine the nature of the problem and a probable course of treatment. Additional sessions are usually scheduled weekly or every other week. The number of additional sessions depends on the nature and severity of the problem, but a total of 4 to 10 visits is common.
Services provided at the Behavioral Health Clinics are covered under the mental health portion of many insurance plans, including Medicaid. If you are not sure about coverage, contact your insurance carrier or the benefits office at your place of employment and ask about your coverage. Individuals seen at our clinics are registered as patients in the University of Nebraska Medical Center system which is responsible for all billing and record management.
