Given to a team or individual for achievement towards developing a more culturally diverse, competent and inclusive university community, the Rubens J. Pamies, M.D. Award for Diversity is announced each year. Nominations are welcome from any member of the UNMC community.
The award recognizes efforts to improve outcomes of underserved groups, build unity and celebrate the richness of thought, perspective and experience of employees and students.
A nationally-known expert in health disparities, the late Dr. Rubens Pamies was a community champion for inclusion and achievement of underrepresented groups. He died on a mission trip to his native Haiti. Dr. Pamies served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean for Graduate Studies from 2003-2011.
