Pipeline Programs

Our future depends on health care professionals who are committed to caring for people with diverse needs and from varying backgrounds. UNMC offers several programs which allow students to get a "jump-start" on a health care career.

The UNMC High School Alliance - allows rising high school juniors and seniors to take advanced science classes (and receive dual credit from their high school and college), to shadow health care professionals and meet and network with other area students. These students get a unique view into medical ethics, human anatomy and biomedical research.

The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program - gives college freshmen and sophomores the opportunity to participate in the nationwide program for students interested in medical or dental school. UNMC is one of 12 sites in the U.S. Students meet mentors, get application tips and connect with others who have similar career goals.

The Rural Health Opportunities Program - seeks to address the health care needs of rural communities in Nebraska by encouraging students from those areas to become health care providers. UNMC partners with several state colleges that provide pre-professional programs. Accepted students receive free tuition.
