Student Groups

Along with rigorous course work, students can participate in student groups designed to provide affinity around topics like pharmacy, global health or holistic health. In addition, UNMC has chapters of several nationally recognized organizations which support students interested in multicultural and women's health issues.

The Student National Medical Association chapter is a group of students committed to the needs of minority or underserved communities and dedicated to supporting students from multicultural backgrounds. Leadership, social awareness and excellence are its areas of focus.

The American Medical Women's Association is designed to support women medical students and physicians. Through peer groups, discussions and outreach, members encourage each other in the study and pursuit of medical careers.

The UNMC Gay-Straight Alliance aims to educate future health care providers in the specific health care needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) patients, promote the health and acceptance of LGBT providers and to offer a safe atmosphere while respecting the needs of privacy and confidentiality.
