Chuck Durham

Chuck Durham’s generous contributions are visible across the UNMC campus, as well as the city of Omaha.

In December 1998, Chuck and his late wife, Margre, made a generous contribution to UNMC and its College of Medicine. The Charles W. and Margre H. Durham Excellence in Medicine Fund was used to support innovative education and research programs in the College of Medicine.

The three key areas included prostate cancer, arthritis and minimally invasive surgery. In recognition of the gift, the Outpatient Care Center on the UNMC campus was renamed the Durham Outpatient Center.

Durham is chairman of the board and CEO of Durham Resources. Previously, he served as chairman and CEO of HDR, Inc., an international engineering and architectural firm with work in all 50 states and 20 countries. The firm has designed more health-care facilities than almost any other engineering/architectural company in the country.

In 2003, he received the Horatio Alger Award, which is bestowed on truly outstanding Americans who are dedicated community leaders with demonstrated individual initiative and a commitment to excellence.

His reach into the community stretches from the University of Nebraska at Omaha Durham Science Building and the Durham Western Heritage Museum to the Henry Doorly Zoo's TreeTops Restaurant and the Nebraska Humane Society.

"This research facility has the potential to make a difference in so many lives," Durham said. "It is an honor to be associated with a medical center that has a vision to be world-class, to improve the health of all the people of Nebraska and beyond, advance medical knowledge through research and educate outstanding health professionals and scientists."
