University of Nebraska Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program Curriculum SummaryThe emergency medicine curriculum provides a ‘road map’ the resident will
follow to become an outstanding emergency physician.
The month of July is dedicated to Intern Orientation. Emergency Medicine Interns will spend the month of July in lectures, cadaver/simulation labs, 2-day Ultra Sound Course, BLS, ACLS and PALS courses. ATLS will take place in the months of August and September prior to your first trauma rotation. Additionally, the interns will go off campus to visit community resources that are available to our patient population with the goal of the visit to gain an understanding of how to utilize the community resource. The intern will spend 3 months in our Emergency Department here at UNMC and 1 month in the Pediatric Emergency Room at Children's Hospital here in Omaha. The remaining rotations listed above are all one month rotations here at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. EM II Year:
The EM II year is a very busy and exciting year! The EM resident will spend 7 months in the Emergency Department with one of the months dedicated to a rural rotation site. The resident may choose to go to North Platte or Scottsbluff Nebraska for this rural rotation. The resident will also spend one month on the toxicology rotation under the direction of Drs. Kirschner and Barthold, who are also on our Faculty in our department. Residents are also given an elective during this year. The elective month is fairly flexible with many options for rotation and location. The PICU month will be spent at Children's Hospital in Omaha and both the AICU and NeuroSurg rotations will take place here at UNMC.
The EM III year is spent mostly in our emergency department here at UNMC. Again, there is a required one month rural emergency rotation with the options of either North Platte or Scottsbluff Nebraska. One month is dedicated to learning the administrative side of emergency medicine as well as EMS and Flight Medicine. Residents are given another month for elective and 1 month of AICU. |
