Cancer Care of the Head and Neck

Care of Cancer of the Head and Neck

The Head and Neck service within the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Nebraska specializes in the care of patients with benign and malignant tumors of the mouth, throat, voice box (larynx), salivary glands (parotid, submandibular, and minor), sinuses, thyroid and parathyroid glands, lymph nodes, ear, nose, and skin of the head and neck.

New patients are anonymously discussed at a weekly Head and Neck Tumor Conferences. At that time experts from Radiation Therapy, Medical Oncology, Pathology, Radiology, Dental Oncology, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery join with Head and Neck Surgery to formulate a treatment plan for each individual.

The expertise of many sub-specialists is strongly utilized. Some of those sub-specialists include plastic and reconstructive surgeons Drs. Ronald Hollins, Perry Johnson, dental oncologist and prosthodonist Dr. Alvin G. Wee, speech and swallowing specialist Marsha Sullivan and prosthetic technician Dale Svatos.
