Jixin Dong, PhD, is a professor in the UNMC Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases. He joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2008 as an assistant professor and was promoted to full professor in 2023. Dr. Dong received his Ph. D. in molecular biology from Zhejiang University, China. Dr. Dong did his postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (2002-2004) and the Johns Hopkins University (2004-2008).
Dr. Dong also holds courtesy appointments in the UNMC departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Pathology and Microbiology.

The Dong lab is focused on two research directions. One is to determine the role of Hippo-YAP signaling and validate it as a therapeutic target in cancer including pancreatic cancer. The second is to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and signaling of paclitaxel chemo-resistance, with particular interest in protein kinases-mediated anti-tubulin chemosensitivity in pancreatic and ovarian cancer. We use combined biochemical, cell biology and genetic mouse models to identify potential targets for cancer treatment especially for the treatment of recurrent patients.
