Guangshun Wang, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Director of NMR Facility, Eppley Institute ;

Courtesy Appointments: College of Pharmacy, Department of Pathology & Microbiology

Ph.D. - Simon Fraser University, Structural Biochemistry

Research Interests: Signal Transduction, Structural Biology, and NMR in Cancer

Dr. Wang leads an NMR Structural Biology laboratory at the Eppley Institute.  His main focus is on structure and function of signal transduction proteins and their complexes, including membrane proteins.  He hopes to understand protein function based on the NMR studies of structure, dynamics, and molecular interactions.  Protein structures will be elucidated by multidimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, directly in solution.  The core NMR facilities here include Bruker 400 MHz, Varian 500 and 600 MHz spectrometers.  Through his research, Dr. Wang wishes to contribute to our understanding of the molecular basis of diseases especially cancer.  He hopes to design novel molecules that kill cancer cells based on the knowledge derived from structural and functional studies.

Antimicrobial Peptide Database (APD), a tool for novel peptide design, can be accessed at http://aps.unmc.edu/AP/main.html
