Prevention of Global Blindness Fellowship
The University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences is pleased to announce a new fellowship in Prevention of Global Blindness Fellowship. This fellowship, sponsored by our International Division, will be a one-year clinical and research fellowship for board eligible or board certified ophthalmologists who have completed an ophthalmology residency in an ACGME approved ophthalmology residency training program.
The goal of this fellowship is to provide trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to become leaders in global blindness prevention. Under the supervision of the fellowship director and international faculty, the fellow will develop abilities to work independently in different global settings and to build a global network with key individuals to develop sustainable programs in prevention of global blindness. Fellows will gain extensive clinical and surgical experience with a focus on patient care in rural settings.
Fellows will spend the majority of the academic year working abroad at partnered ophthalmic hospitals and in rural outreach settings. Current partner arrangements include Ghana, Haiti, Ethiopia, and Nepal. The balance of the year will be spent developing clinical and surgical skills on the main campus in Omaha, Nebraska, our partner clinic in Fairbanks, Alaska, as well as at partnered Native American Indian Reservations.
