Each year, the Annual Gifford-Truhlsen Alumni and Residents Day is held at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Besides providing a venue for annual presentations by the residents, fellows, and alumni of the department, this conference honors two visiting professors, each designated as either the Gifford or Truhlsen Lecturer, to pay tribute to these great men who have contributed so much to UNMC and to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
The 2012 conference was held on Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Truhlsen Event Center in the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education on the UNMC campus at 619 South 42nd Street, Omaha, Nebraska. The 2012 Truhlsen lecture was Randall J. Olson, M.D., University of Utah. The 2012 Gifford Lecturer was Gregory S. Hageman, Ph.D., University of Utah. We were pleased and honored to have these renowned leaders participate in this event.
The 2013 conference will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013. The 2013 Truhlsen lecturer will be Julia A. Haller, M.D., Wills Eye Institute, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 2013 Gifford lecturer will be Napoleone Ferrara, MD, Senior Deputy Director for Basic Sciences, Moores Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego, California.
